During a two-week road trip through California, I got to experience the legendary American car culture. I drove across twelve major highways, traversing an estimated 1,500 miles. I was able to photograph vehicles of all types, including big rigs, school buses, RVs, motorcycles, SUVs, and family sedans.
What impressed me the most, and what I hope to transmit to the viewer through these photographs, is that no two vehicles are ever the same: each one has individual character; each one “speaks” about the habits, interests, economic status, profession, place of origin, favorite leisure activity, or preferred sport of its owner. Compared to the much more banal and uninventive European attitude toward cars and driving, American car culture has taken on a life of its own.
